HOUSTON, TX – HOV Lane Integration
Econolite Systems was selected to design, develop, install, integrate, and test an automated reversible gate operation (ARGO) system as part of Houston METRO’s High Occupancy Toll (HOT) Lane program. This intelligent solution improves the efficiency and safety of barrier-separated reversible lanes along major Houston freeways, supporting dominant inbound and outbound travel patterns.
Project Overview
Houston METRO engaged TransCore as the prime contractor to automate existing reversible lanes. TransCore selected Econolite for our expertise with the Centracs ATMS platform and the ability to provide customized software and control systems. The ARGO system allows operators to monitor, control, schedule, and verify the operation of reversible lane devices remotely, including signs, gates, barriers, and cameras.
Automated Reversible Gate Operations
The system eliminates the need for manually operated gates at reversible lane entry points. Operators can control lane access elements centrally while viewing live traffic conditions. The ARGO system integrates with the Centracs advanced CCTV module, managing up to 200 digital IP cameras. The cameras automatically select, position, and record based on field alarms, enhancing safety and operational reliability.
System Capabilities & Benefits
- Centralized control of reversible lane devices
- Automated sequencing for gates, barriers, and signs
- Integrated CCTV monitoring for safety and security
- Reduced operational labor through automation
- Improved managed lane performance and traffic flow
