Econolite Systems is under contract with the Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA) to manage and maintain traffic and toll facility equipment at seven toll bridge locations and on approaches throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. This work supports safe, efficient toll operations across the Bay Area’s major state‑owned bridges.

The San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge, Antioch Bridge, Benicia–Martinez Bridge, Carquinez Bridge, Dumbarton Bridge, Richmond–San Rafael Bridge, and San Mateo–Hayward Bridge are all part of the toll network administered by BATA, which includes all‑electronic tolling and FasTrak electronic toll collection systems.

Project Scope & Services

Under this contract, Econolite has been tasked with equipment management, system maintenance, field inspection, and system assessments at toll facilities and bridge approaches. On‑call services and enhancements include:

  • Changeable Message Signs (CMS) and roadside traffic signage
  • Fire suppression systems, mechanical gates, and indicator lights
  • Climate systems, including air conditioning and generators
  • Server, IT infrastructure, and network facilities
  • Surveillance cameras, detection devices, and related field equipment
  • Routine inspections and monthly toll plaza surveys

These services ensure reliable operation of toll facilities and related traffic systems throughout the Bay Area.

System Assessment & Recommendations

In addition to maintenance, Econolite performed a comprehensive System Assessment for BATA that:

  • Evaluated existing toll facility equipment condition
  • Identified systems requiring repair or replacement
  • Provided detailed recommendations for future improvement projects
  • Produced a five‑year upgrade plan, baseline report, and transfer report for ongoing management

BATA relies on teamEpro, Econolite’s maintenance management software, to track equipment inventory, preventative maintenance, and repairs — centralizing asset tracking and supporting data‑driven decision‑making.
