Traffic Signal Control System, Phases 1 and 2

Jun 28, 2023 | ITS Integration

City of Lacey, WA

The City of Lacey initiated a project with Econolite Systems, Inc. (ESI) in 2013 to upgrade its traffic signal control and management system and network. In addition to deploying Centracs to initially manage 30 of the City’s intersections, ESI’s role included network design, VDSL, and Public DSL backhaul deployment over a VPN tunnel, as well as supply of 30 cabinets and controllers, and controller database conversions. The project kicked off with a system inventory of existing communication and traffic control equipment at each of the project locations. ESI then assisted the City with its Communication Planning and Design Program which included: a high-level communication design to implement communication along each project corridor and provide for communication with the TMC; recommendations on whether existing equipment could be reused or would require replacement; recommendations for field equipment upgrades/replacement; and TMC upgrade recommendations. A subsequent phase of the project is adding controllers and cabinets for an additional eleven intersections along with integration services.
