The union with Econolite allows PTV to offer hardware to UK customers for the first time. PTV Group EVO RADAR is currently powering a successful pilot project in South Gloucestershire.
PTV Group EVO RADAR technology serves as the first piece of traffic detection hardware offered by PTV Group in Europe. This launch, announced in Birmingham, marks a significant milestone in the integration with sister company Econolite. The sensor has already been successfully trialled in South Gloucestershire, where it demonstrated unprecedented field of view and simple setup.
Synergies of the PTV Group EVO RADAR
The two companies, which merged under the Umovity brand, are now actively harnessing the synergies of their market-leading technologies. This partnership combines PTV’s experience in traffic modelling with Econolite’s intersection control expertise. Consequently, the UK market now has access to the PTV Group EVO RADAR sensor. This device provides an extremely wide field of view and a sensing range of up to 300 metres. These features enable only two sensors to fully cover all approaches at most intersections.
“This is a very exciting moment for PTV in the UK,” explained UK Managing Director Devrim Kara. “For decades we have been trusted to simulate the movement of traffic and people from a single junction to an entire city, but until now our customers have needed to source the traffic detection equipment elsewhere. Now we can provide both traffic data collection and interpretation.”
Performance and Local Success
The PTV Group EVO RADAR detects vehicle movements, pedestrians, and cyclists alike. Users can ingest the gathered data into PTV modelling software to simulate changes that improve traffic flow. In South Gloucestershire, the client was particularly impressed with the accuracy of tracking all types of highway traffic.
Gary Liddington, Senior Engineer at South Gloucestershire Council, stated: “It couldn’t have gone better, installation and setup was so simple and to date we have had no problems. The site is performing very well with the EVO RADAR.”
Project partner Dan Preece, MD at Integrated Traffic Services, added: “I have been extremely impressed by the quality of the radar’s performance so far. Reliable detection is paramount to a well performing network. The PTV Group EVO RADAR is hands down the most accurate and simple to setup above ground multi-lane system I have used so far.”
A One-Stop-Shop for Mobility
Furthermore, Umovity serves as a true One-Stop-Shop for sustainable mobility solutions. The newly released Mobility Tech Suite covers everything from transportation planning to on-site management. While PTV continues to work with third-party data, Mr. Kara notes that the combined hardware and software solution will inevitably lead to safer roads for everyone. Because the business continues to integrate globally, Umovity expects to offer more Econolite products to the UK market in due course.
