Chester, CT — October 22, 2024 Whelen Engineering is proud to announce a new partnership with Econolite. Econolite is part of Umovity and provides Centracs® Priority software. This collaboration will expand the traffic preemption capabilities of Whelen’s innovative software, the Whelen Cloud Platform® (WCP®).

How the Whelen Cloud Platform Works

The WCP is a cloud-based vehicle communication platform. It sends and receives data through cellular networks. Specifically, the WCP allows users to manage vehicle configurations and firmware updates remotely. It also helps create faster response times. It does this by using real-time information to pinpoint vehicle locations. Additionally, users can easily organize fleets with Whelen product information.

The partnership with Econolite provides enhanced traffic preemption features. Consequently, police, fire, EMS, and other fleets can request a green light upon approach. This helps clear intersections and makes emergency response much safer.

Leadership Insights

“At Whelen, we always search for innovative ways to protect those who serve others,” says Whelen CEO Geoff Marsh. “This partnership with Econolite will strengthen our platform. It allows us to offer better safety and efficiency to America’s heroes as they travel to active scenes.”

Econolite’s Centracs software has a flexible architecture. Because of this, cities can customize the software to their specific traffic needs. It integrates the latest sensor technologies and crowdsourced data.

“Centracs’ Priority solution is the ideal platform,” said David Spinney, Econolite’s Vice President of Systems Software. “It provides a foundation to use both traditional and non-traditional traffic data. Furthermore, mobile connections have made on-demand traffic data a major source of location information. This ‘infrastructure-less’ data is already used for incident reporting and predictive modeling. We are excited to expand the use of vehicle data from Whelen’s equipment.”
