Hamburg is taking the next step toward smarter mobility. Specifically, the city is deploying adaptive traffic control in Hamburg using solutions from across the Umovity portfolio.

Today, key leaders signed a formal partnership agreement. Nick Ghia, CEO at Umovity Software by PTV Group, joined Christoph Heel, Chief Digital Officer at Hamburg’s State Authority for Roads, Bridges and Waterways. Together, they will develop the city’s next generation of adaptive traffic signal control.

A Strategic Partnership for Adaptive Traffic Control in Hamburg

Furthermore, this new cooperation demonstrates Umovity’s primary focus to solve complex mobility challenges.

Key Highlights of the Agreement:

  • Deployment of Centracs Mobility adaptive technology
  • Integration of PTV Group predictive traffic simulation
  • Optimized signal performance across municipal corridors

Combining Simulation and Adaptive Signal Control Solutions

In addition, PTV Group will contribute its industry-leading simulation capabilities. These tools model and validate new traffic control strategies before deployment. At the same time, this initiative marks the first European deployment of Econolite’s Centracs Mobility technology.

As a result, these combined tools will enable a cloud-based, AI-powered traffic management solution. The system continuously responds to changing road conditions. Consequently, it improves traffic flow, prioritizes public transport, and supports digital, sustainable transportation. Ultimately, implementing adaptive traffic control in Hamburg helps agency operators react to congestion, reduce emissions, and improve travel time reliability.

As Andy Myers, CEO of Umovity, often says, the future of mobility isn’t about individual technologies—it’s about bringing the right capabilities together. That’s exactly what this partnership represents.

Finally, we offer our congratulations to everyone involved. We are excited to see this collaboration move forward. For additional project details, learn more about Hamburg’s Smart City Initiatives.
