Cloud-Based Arterial Management (CBAM) Regional Platform for Treasure Coast

Cloud-Based Arterial Management (CBAM) Deployment – FDOT District 4

The CBAM program helps the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 4 implement advanced regional traffic management in the Treasure Coast Region. FDOT District 4 serves five counties—Broward, Indian River, Martin, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie—with more than 3.6 million residents and over 6,000 highway lane miles, where drivers travel more than 52 million miles daily.

The initiative provides Signal Maintaining Agencies (SMAs) with cloud-based and hybrid ATMS solutions for real-time monitoring, regional traffic coordination, and seamless integration with existing traffic infrastructure.

Project Snapshot

Agency Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 4
Project Type Cloud-Based Arterial Management (CBAM)
Scope Regional ATMS deployment, cloud integration, SMA coordination, intersection upgrades
Key Technologies Centracs Mobility Platform, traffic signal controllers, cabinets, video detection sensors

Key Project Outcomes

  • Centralized cloud-based traffic signal management across multiple SMAs
  • Real-time monitoring and access for regional traffic operators
  • Integration with existing traffic controllers and signal infrastructure
  • Deployment of new controllers, cabinets, and video detection where needed
  • Support for future system upgrades and regional scalability

Centracs Mobility ensures the Treasure Coast region can manage traffic efficiently with cloud access and real-time visibility for operators.

Project Overview

In May 2025, FDOT District 4 awarded Econolite the contract to deploy the Centracs® Mobility Platform as the initial CBAM system. The platform is implemented in coordination with four SMAs: Indian River County, Martin County, St. Lucie County, and the City of Port Saint Lucie. Econolite ensures compatibility with existing infrastructure and supports future upgrades while providing cloud-based access for real-time monitoring and traffic signal management.

Intersection and Infrastructure Upgrades

The project includes access to at least 178 identified intersections. Econolite deploys new controllers, traffic cabinets, and video detection sensors at intersections that require upgrades to meet CBAM specifications. This ensures seamless integration with the regional ATMS, supporting both current operations and future expansion.

Technology Used in This Project

Operational Benefits

The CBAM deployment delivers centralized traffic control, real-time cloud access, and improved coordination across multiple counties and SMAs. Operators gain enhanced visibility into regional traffic conditions, enabling quicker response to incidents and more efficient traffic flow. The infrastructure upgrades ensure the system is scalable, reliable, and prepared for future expansion and technology improvements.
