The Cranberry PA ITS solution helped the Township of Cranberry, Pennsylvania improve traffic signal control and monitoring across key corridors. Because this growing community has seen more traffic over time, traditional timing plans no longer delivered the responsiveness needed. Therefore, Cranberry chose a centralized system to support better signal operations and decision‑making.
Project Background
Cranberry’s signal network includes several busy intersections near commercial centers and commuter routes. Because these corridors serve mixed traffic volumes throughout the day, the township needed a system that could monitor conditions in real time and quickly respond to unexpected congestion. In addition, staff needed tools that simplify data analysis and support proactive traffic adjustments.
ITS Solution Deployment
To meet these goals, Econolite deployed the Centracs® Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) as the foundation of the Cranberry PA ITS solution. This system gives traffic engineers centralized control over signal timing, performance dashboards, and realtime monitoring tools. As a result, staff can evaluate and adjust timing plans quickly when conditions change.
In addition to the ATMS platform, the project included upgrades to field equipment. This work included modern traffic signal controllers, enhanced communications links, and improved detection systems. Because reliable data is essential, these hardware upgrades help ensure accurate real‑time information flows from intersections to the central system.
