Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 7

FDOT District 7 addresses roadways within several counties along the west coast of Florida. The region has nearly three million residents, which includes the Tampa Bay Metropolitan area. The District is responsible for more than 4,200 highway lane miles where drivers on a daily basis travel more than 33.6 million miles.

FDOT D7 continues to take a leadership position in actively modernizing its transportation infrastructure. In October 2025, FDOT D7 selected Econolite for the Internally Illuminated Street Name Signs and Retro-Reflective Flexible Backplates project. This project focuses on safety for roadway users by upgrading traffic signals and illuminated street signs. These enhancements are designed to improve visibility, reliability, and safety for all road users. By investing in upgrading the visibility of traffic signals and street signs, the FDOT D7 is taking proactive steps to meet its infrastructure goals and create a safer, more efficient transportation network.

Econolite’s Tampa-based team of experienced IMSA-certified field technicians will assess and replace damaged or missing internally illuminated street name signs at 120 project locations. Econolite’s team will also install retro-reflective flexible signal backplates at 64 project locations throughout FDOT D7, with current locations in Hillsborough County, Pinellas County, and Pasco County.

The project follows several transportation infrastructure project contracts FDOT D7 has awarded to Econolite. Most recently, Econolite was contracted for the Power Outage Emergency Beacons (POEB) installation project. Econolite is also part of a multidisciplinary design-build consultant team for the I-275 Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) project in Hillsborough County.
