Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Southern Nevada
The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) and its Freeway and Arterial System of Transportation (FAST) is a high-tech network with the goal to keep traffic flowing smoothly in Southern Nevada. RTC is responsible for the operation of fixed route and paratransit services, traffic management, roadway design and construction funding, and transportation planning for Southern Nevada.
Managed by a team of skilled traffic engineers, technicians, and analysts, RTC and FAST oversees over 1,600 traffic signals, 1,100 cameras, 1,600 miles of fiber optic cable, 169 electronic signs, 74 ramp meters, and 650 traffic flow detectors. The RTC works collaboratively with the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT). In addition, FAST is one of the first truly integrated Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) organizations in the country. On July 3, 2004, the RTC became the official administrator of FAST. NDOT and the RTC became full-fledged funding partners, contributing to the operations and management of FAST.
In late 2024, RTC and FAST sought qualified suppliers for a large-scale effort to supply and provide ongoing warranty and support for up to 2,000 Advanced Transportation Controller (ATC) compliant traffic signal controllers. The updated ATC controller project is part of the RTC’s ongoing efforts to modernize and prepare the region for new and future traffic management and operational capabilities.
Through an extensive evaluation process, Econolite was one of two companies awarded a contract by RTC to provide 2,000 NEMA ATC controllers for this project through March 2027. Econolite was selected to supply its Cobalt® controllers to the RTC for this region-wide upgrade project. x
Cobalt®, Econolite’s next-generation ATC controller, features a breakthrough hardened, seven-inch touchscreen Graphical User Interface (GUI) matched with Linux-based OS that makes programming and access to functions the easiest in the industry. This industry leading controller features 32 phases with advanced pedestrian and bicycle timing features. Cobalt will provide RTC with a reliable platform to implement improvements and new data-driven applications to help optimize transportation operations and enhance safety in the Southern Nevada region for years to come.
As part of the contract, the Econolite team will provide RTC with ongoing training, installation, and troubleshooting support.
