St. Lucie County, FL

St. Lucie County is located in southeastern Florida. The county seat, the City of Fort Pierce, anchors the northern part of the region, while the City of Port St. Lucie drives much of the county’s residential and commercial expansion. As the principal County of the Port St. Lucie Metropolitan Statistical Area, St. Lucie County serves as a key connector between Florida’s Treasure Coast and the broader state transportation network. The Port St. Lucie metropolitan has a population of nearly 500,000 residents and experiences large influxes of commuter and tourist traffic on its roadways.

The County’s roadway infrastructure is essential for facilitating daily commutes, freight movement, emergency evacuation routes, and access to coastal and inland destinations. With rapid population growth and urban development, maintaining and modernizing its transportation systems is critical to ensuring safety, reducing congestion, and supporting future smart mobility initiatives. Investments in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic signal upgrades, and multimodal corridors are increasingly important to meet the mobility needs of residents and commerce. St. Lucie County’s strategic location and infrastructure planning make its transportation network a critical element to ongoing growth, safety, and resilience in Florida’s southeastern region.

With its transportation infrastructure playing a vital role in supporting regional mobility and economic growth, the County actively maximizes its roadway infrastructure investments through a comprehensive ongoing traffic signal maintenance program. In response to this, the County sought a new provider to fulfill a new signal maintenance program contract. The program also includes enhanced first-responder traffic preemption, and several specific intersection improvement projects as ordered.

In October 2025, St. Lucie County awarded the Signal Maintenance and Master Construction Contract to Econolite Systems, Inc.conolite. As specified in the contract, Econolite will provide IMSA-certified Level II and Level III Signal Technicians to deliver maintenance services on deployed traffic control and related devices to ensure the County’s roadway infrastructure is fully operational. Econolite will also respond to emergency repair requests for traffic devices and components that have failed. In addition, Econolite will be responsible for providing alterations or upgrades, including safety and operational improvements to devices and the roadway throughout the County. In addition, the Econolite Signal Technicians will have a higher state of readiness in preparation for addressing infrastructure resilience to natural disasters, including hurricanes.
