Town of Parker, CO

The Town of Parker, CO (Town) is located in Douglas County about 20 miles south of Denver. As part of the Greater Denver Metropolitan Area, Parker experiences its share of large volumes of commuter and seasonal traffic. Parker has been proactive in addressing and updating its transportation infrastructure to meet evolving and growing mobility demands.

In 2015, the Town was one of several municipalities to use Centracs^® ATMS as part of the regional networked traffic signal operations. In late 2024, the Town sought to upgrade to its traffic signal infrastructure as part of its long-term Transportation Master Plan and Complete Streets initiative. This project involves replacing its outdated fleet of 170E-HC11 controllers with leading-edge ATC traffic signal controllers, ensuring compatibility with modern intersection control and traffic data collection systems.

In 2025, the Town chose Econolite Cobalt^® ATC rackmount controllers with EOS controller firmware for its traffic signal controller upgrade which replaces their existing 170E-HC11 controllers. Cobalt is helping to helping to enhance system reliability, support multimodal traffic operations, and enable integration with Parker’s Centracs-based Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) architecture. As part of this contract, the Town initially ordered 150 Cobalt ATCs.

The new Cobalts will be deployed to control 140 intersections that the Town of Parker’s Traffic Engineering Department manage. In addition, several Cobalt ATCs will be leveraged for existing and future traffic count stations. The data from these count stations are used for ongoing transportation planning, traffic management, and developmental studies, helping Parker to improve mobility and safety. This upgrade positions Parker to better meet evolving transportation demands, support future technologies, and maintain compliance with industry standards for dynamic traffic control programs.
