The City of Aliso Viejo is a master-planned community in south Orange County, CA. As the community has grown, the City has continued to invest in transportation infrastructure improvements that enhance mobility, accessibility, and safety. Therefore, in support of these goals, the City initiated the FY25-26 accessible pedestrian signal (APS) Project – CDBG. This federally funded infrastructure improvement program is designed to modernize pedestrian crossing facilities at key signalized intersections throughout the City.
In May 2026, Econolite Systems, Inc. (Econolite) was awarded the contract by the City to replace existing pedestrian push buttons. Under this agreement, Econolite will install new accessible pedestrian signal push buttons and controllers at ten signalized intersections throughout Aliso Viejo. For instance, project locations include intersections along Aliso Viejo Parkway, Aliso Creek Road, Liberty, Pacific Park Drive, Grand Avenue, Cedarbrook, Windsong, and Freedom Lane. Consequently, the improvements will provide pedestrians with enhanced crossing information. Specifically, these features include audible indications, locator tones, vibrotactile feedback, and other accessibility features. As a result, these modern elements improve confidence and independence for individuals navigating the City’s multimodal transportation network.
