City of Poway, CA
With the motto “The City in the Country”, the City of Poway (City) is located in the rural Northern region of San Diego County. Despite its country lifestyle, Poway is less than a 30 minute-drive to San Diego. As a result, the City has experienced consistent population and commuter traffic growth over the years. Recognizing this growth and the importance of modernizing and building resiliency into its infrastructure, the City adopted a Capital Improvement Program (CIP) in funding infrastructure upgrades, including its traffic network to enhance safety and deliver more efficient and accessible mobility for the community.
In 2025, the City’s Traffic Engineering Department identified the need to upgrade video detection systems at two key high-volume intersections. The intersection at Twin Peaks Road and Community Road, represents an extremely busy commercial hub, which includes several retail centers and eateries. The intersection at Pomerado Road and Meadowbrook Lane is part of the historic US Highway 395 and provides access to an ecological reserve and a middle school. In August, Econolite was awarded the Traffic Signal Video Detection Upgrades contract. The contract calls for Econolite to upgrade the traffic signal equipment in support of new video detection systems at the following designated intersections:
- Twin Peaks Road and Community Road: Econolite will install new traffic signal controller cabinet equipment, pull boxes, battery backup system and side-mount cabinet, and four new video detection systems. In addition, Econolite will install a new EVP system for all four approaches and one five-section signal head, and advanced vehicle detector loops.
- Pomerado Road and Meadowbrook Lane: Econolite will install new traffic signal controller cabinet equipment, battery backup system and side-mount cabinet, pull boxes, and three new video detection systems.
