Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) and Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measurement (ATSPM) Platform

City of Nampa, ID

In April 2024, Econolite Systems, Inc. was awarded a contract by the City of Nampa, ID (City) to design and deploy an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) and an Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures (ATSPM) solution that integrated with existing transportation services, as well as support current and future objectives for enhanced operations and public safety throughout the City.

The third most populous city in the State of Idaho, the City of Nampa is a thriving community situated about 20 miles west of the State’s capitol of Boise. According to the City’s Transportation Master Plan, the population is expected to grow 50% by 2040. The number of jobs in Nampa is also expected to grow by 67 percent to 70,000 jobs inside the city limits within the same period. The City is also part of the larger Nampa-Meridian-Boise metroplex with a combined population exceeding 400,000 residents.

Nampa currently operates and maintains approximately 90 signalized intersections and pedestrian signals within the City, 33 of these are owned by the Idaho Transportation Department. As a result, the City specified that the ATMS and ATSPM solution needs to support a minimum of 100 traffic signal controllers with the ability to expand up to a minimum of 300 controllers in the future. Econolite will deploy Centracs® Mobility, combining the best features of a client-server architecture with cloud-based services, including Centracs SPM. Centracs Mobility and SPM will be installed on City’s on-premises (or virtual) servers and client software will be installed on both new and existing user machines as required. In addition, Econolite is ensuring that the ATMS and the ATSPM Platform communicates with and support Q-Free and Econolite Cobalt® Advanced Transportation Controllers (ATC) that will all be connected to the City’s fiber optic communications network, providing remote connection back to the Nampa Public Safety Building and the satellite Public Works Signal Shop.
