Project Background
Before the Sault Ste. Marie ATMS deployment, the city relied on legacy signal control software that limited real-time monitoring and system flexibility.

Because of these growing demands, the city required a modern traffic management solution capable of centralized control, remote access, and data-driven analysis.
Modernized Traffic Signal Infrastructure
As part of the Sault Ste. Marie ATMS deployment, the city upgraded to
Cobalt traffic signal controllers,
improving responsiveness and communication reliability at key intersections.
In addition, the deployment enhanced connectivity between field devices and the traffic management center, ensuring operators could monitor and adjust signal timing plans remotely and efficiently.
Signal Performance Optimization
To further strengthen the Sault Ste. Marie ATMS deployment, the city implemented
Centracs® Signal Performance Measures (SPM).
