Sacramento County CA ITS Integration & ATMS Upgrade
Sacramento County, California partnered with Econolite to modernize its traffic signal operations with a comprehensive Sacramento County CA ITS Integration. The project implemented the Centracs® Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) platform and upgraded system infrastructure to improve signal timing, monitoring, and overall roadway performance.
Because Sacramento County manages hundreds of signals in a diverse and growing transportation network, county leaders chose a centralized solution to improve daily operations and support future growth.
Project Goals
The main objectives of the Sacramento County CA ITS Integration included:
- Deploying a centralized traffic management platform
- Improving coordination among traffic signals
- Providing real-time traffic monitoring and reporting
- Enhancing communications between field devices and the ATMS
- Supporting future expansion and long-term mobility plans
In addition, the project aimed to provide traffic engineers with better system visibility and faster responses to changing travel conditions.
ATMS Deployment & Integration
Econolite installed and configured the Centracs ATMS for centralized signal control across Sacramento County. The system was connected to field devices to enable stable and secure communications between intersections and the traffic management center.
Upgraded traffic signal controllers were deployed at strategic locations to replace older hardware and improve timing responsiveness. Existing traffic cabinets were also evaluated and integrated into the system when appropriate.
In addition, enhanced traffic detection systems were implemented to support data collection and real-time decision making. Throughout the process, Econolite provided comprehensive professional services, including system configuration, staff training, and acceptance testing.
Key Components of the Sacramento County CA ITS Integration
- Centracs® ATMS for centralized control and monitoring
- Upgraded traffic signal controllers for improved timing
- Integration with existing traffic cabinets
- Support for traffic detection systems
- Professional services support for training and integration
Operational Benefits for Sacramento County
As a result of this Sacramento County CA ITS Integration, traffic engineers now have a centralized and data-driven system that provides:
- Improved signal coordination across major corridors
- Faster responses to changing traffic conditions
- Greater visibility into system performance
- A scalable ATMS platform for future enhancements
Overall, this ATMS upgrade supports more efficient traffic operations and improved mobility throughout Sacramento County.
